Designed by Marina Vella Arquitectos sustainability and an ability to integrate with the natural backdrop were the key aspects that shaped Casa Chontay. A curved stone wall broken up by the presence of sleek tall windows greets you here even as the outdoor dining area and pergola leave a big impression.
Elegantly tucked in between the series of internal courtyards is the living area on the lower level along with a spacious kitchen and dining room a laundry an additional sitting lounge a music room and a lovely pantry.
Designed by Gabriela Caicedo-Liebert the house combines a hint of Art Deco with unassuming minimalism and contemporary ergonomics to fashion a distinct and dashing silhouette. The two main structures of the house that welcome you are both windowless and have a gentle curved edge with the main entrance located in between the twin behemoths.
The use of dark-toned wooden surfaces and finishes also adds to the tropical style of the home that is accentuated by the design of the ceiling and the lovely shutters. With summers getting really hot on this beautiful Aussie island the ‘completely open’ design allows for natural cooling with the ocean breeze flowing through the interior.
Designed by La Design Studio the suburban home aims to bring nature indoors not just with a great courtyard and garden space but with every level of the house adding a hint of greenery to create a refreshing and cheerful ambiance.
Viewed from the street the novel extension is almost invisible and it only becomes a part of the home’s visual once you step in. This was an essential component of the overall design as it kept the historic appeal of the house unaltered while the extension with glass walls and large floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors brought in ample natural ventilation.
This meant that the upper floor was incorporated into the hillside and the gradient of the lot turned into an advantage by simply using a step-wise arrangement of various levels. Despite these restrictions a lovely roof deck incorporated within a flat planted roof allows the homeowners to take in the sights and sounds of the serene island!
