Designed by Gabriela Caicedo-Liebert the house combines a hint of Art Deco with unassuming minimalism and contemporary ergonomics to fashion a distinct and dashing silhouette. The two main structures of the house that welcome you are both windowless and have a gentle curved edge with the main entrance located in between the twin behemoths.
While the top level of the house seems to float in air ever so elegantly the basement of the cottage is firmly anchored in the Canadian Shield giving it plenty of stability that is key to the expansive upper level design.
Split across two distinct wings the design of this prefab clearly demarcates the public areas from the private ones with the kitchen living area and dining space on one level and the bedrooms and home studio on the other. Contemporary in its vibe and yet soothing this is a smart residence that forces many out there to change their perception towards prefab homes…
Space is often the biggest issue in most modern homes with many of us looking to find that extra square footage that we feel would make all the difference. But when it comes to a lovely vacation home on the beach one does not really need a whole lot of room and even the smallest can fill your idyllic summer afternoons with unabated joy.
The idea here was to not just fashion a home that connects with the panoramic scenery but also to incorporate design flexibility and adaptability that lets it grow along with the needs of the homeowners.
Essentially the delightful residence brings together a series of courtyards and open spaces bound by glass and stone walls to create a relaxing imaginative and exclusive interior. Apart from the obvious stone and glass presence it is the sturdy steel beams that bring another interesting dimension to this Aussie home even as the two butterfly roofs open up to bring in as much sunlight as possible.
The use of dark-toned wooden surfaces and finishes also adds to the tropical style of the home that is accentuated by the design of the ceiling and the lovely shutters. With summers getting really hot on this beautiful Aussie island the ‘completely open’ design allows for natural cooling with the ocean breeze flowing through the interior.
